Kurt Garrett is an artist based in Raleigh, North Carolina, working across painting and works on paper. His work is concerned with light and contrast—how illumination falls across a face, a skyline, a surface—and with the way a single image can open a larger conversation about culture, memory, and becoming.

Trained as a chemist and drawn to invention and entrepreneurship, Kurt approaches the studio with the same curiosity he brings to a problem: testing materials, chasing a reaction, and paying attention to what the work wants to reveal. Those instincts inform the paintings, but the artwork comes first—the ideas that shaped him sit quietly beneath it.

Recurring themes—elevation, reflection, and the quiet strength of the figure—run through the collection. Each piece is made with intention and offered as an invitation: to look longer, to reflect, and to let the work elevate the space and the conversation it enters.
